Executing Flows: Local vs. Cloud Agents

When using the Leapwork Cloud Trial, you have two ways to run automation flows:

  1. Local Agents (On-Premise Execution)

A Local Agent is a runtime environment installed on your machine that executes automation cases. This setup is useful if you want to:

    • Full control over execution – Run automation locally without relying on external servers.
    • Isolated testing – Ideal for environments that require restricted network access.
  2. Cloud Agents (Leapwork Cloud Execution)

Leapwork also provides Cloud Agents, which are fully managed and hosted by Leapwork. These agents offer:

    • No local setup required – Everything runs in the cloud, pre-configured for seamless execution.
    • Optimized performance – Faster execution using scalable cloud resources.
    • Greater flexibility – Run multiple flows in parallel without overloading your local machine.

While both options allow you to automate workflows, we highly recommend running the pre-defined flows in the cloud to experience the full power of Leapwork Cloud Automation.

Create your own flow

When working with Leapwork, you can create custom automation flows by following the steps outlined in the Web Automation Tutorial training video.

Once your flow is created, you can run it locally (preview mode) or in the cloud.

How to Select a Cloud Agent

By default, Leapwork Studio has the Local Agent (Display 1) preselected when running automation flows. To run a flow in the cloud, follow these steps:

  1. Open your flow in Leapwork Studio.
  2. Find the agent selection button next to the "Run" button.
    cloud_agent_select
  3. Click the button to open the agent selection window.
  4. Choose one of the Cloud Agents available for the trial:
    • CloudAgent01-Internal
    • CloudAgent02-Internal

  5. The selection window closes automatically, and the chosen Cloud Agent appears next to "Run" button.

To execute your flow either in preview mode or in the cloud environment, click Run.

To schedule your flow to run at specific times, follow the instructions in the article Guide to Scheduling Flow.

Once you've executed a set of automation flows, the natural next step is to report on the results. Check out the tutorial on Reports and Dashboards.
